Hello there!

My name is Joshua Tompkins and I am honored that you are taking the time to find out more about me and my music. Beginning when I was 19 years old, I have been in the music business for over 30 years. I started by “playing and paying” my way through college by performing at Nordstrom in the Mall of America combined with numerous weddings, private parties, and corporate events. I earned my Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees in piano performance from the University of Minnesota.

After completing my doctorate, I continued to play numerous gigs while focusing on my career as a college professor. I have taught music theory and piano at the college level for over 20 years. I am the music director at Presbyterian Church of the Way where I conduct the choir and lead the contemporary Christian band. I also accompany the Chrismon Chorale, a Twin Cities based community choir. I stay busy and I love every aspect of music from meeting great people to sharing the beauty of music and the deep emotions that it communicates.

I enjoy performing a wide variety of repertoire: classical, sacred, pop, show-tunes, and light jazz. If you have an event in the future and would like me to help make it special, please reach out.
